COLLEGE SOCCER : Bradbury’s Header in Overtime Enables Titans to Tie Notre Dame

After defeating top-ranked Indiana Friday, Cal State Fullerton rallied twice to salvage a 2-2 tie with unranked Notre Dame Sunday at the UCLA/adidas MetLife Classic.

Matt Bradbury headed in a crossing pass from Eddie Soto with five minutes to play in overtime to give the Titans (10-6-2) the tie. Five minutes earlier, Notre Dame (8-9-2) had taken a 2-1 lead on a goal by Tim Oates.

Fullerton won the tournament with a 1-0-1 record. Indiana, which beat UCLA, 2-0, Sunday, each finished 1-1 in the tournament and Notre Dame was 0-1-1.

Soto sent the game into overtime with a goal on a penalty kick with 11 minutes left in regulation. After a scoreless first half, Notre Dame’s Chris Dean scored in the 55th minute to give the Irish a 1-0 lead.

The Titans were playing without goalkeeper Mike Kornock and midfielder Joey Franchino, who were ineligible to play because they each received a red card in the victory over Indiana (17-2). Backup goalkeeper Justin Johnston had six saves.

In the next game, Indiana dominated the midfield and, as UCLA players became increasingly frustrated, play deteriorated.

The Hoosiers scored in the 36th minute when Joel Shanker headed in a corner kick by Todd Yeagley. They scored again with 25 minutes remaining on an own goal by UCLA’s Brian Woolfolk, who was trying to defend against a free kick by Yeagley and accidentally knocked it into the goal.

It was the first time UCLA (15-2) has been shut out since Oct. 9, 1992, when it lost to New Mexico, 1-0.

Soto, Bradbury, Alfred Partida and Brad Wilson were named to the all-tournament team for Fullerton.
