Countywide : Child Abuse Program to Train Parent Aides

Share

The Exchange Club Child Abuse Prevention Center will offer four seminars to train volunteers as parent aides.

The first pair of seminars are for “Welcome Baby” aides, who go into homes to act as role models for first-time parents. The aides offer training and guidance in child development matters.

Training will be conducted in a one-day workshop from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday and again in a two-part class from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. Monday and Nov. 9.

The second pair of classes will be for Spanish-speaking volunteers to intervene as role models in Latino families where child abuse has occurred or is in danger of occurring.

Those sessions will be from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. Nov. 21 and 28.

The center notes that the need is great for Spanish-speaking volunteers in all categories.

All classes are taught by qualified social workers at the Costa Mesa center, at 2482 Newport Blvd. For information on the “Welcome Baby” training, call Denine Ellis; or for information on the Spanish-speaking aide program, call Vianka Burger, both at (714) 722-1107.
