BREA : Daucher Tops Council Contribution List

The latest campaign disclosure statements filed by City Council candidates indicate that challenger Lynn Daucher received more in total contributions--$12,968--than any of the seven other candidates.

Daucher reported $9,454 in total expenditures for the period ending Oct. 22. The current cash portion of her disclosure statement indicated $6,918 in receipts and $2,875 in expenses for an ending cash balance of $4,043.

Councilman Burnie Dunlap, who is seeking his second four-year term, collected $11,128 in total contributions. He spent a total of $9,571--the most of any candidate. Dunlap reported $4,467 in cash receipts and $2,910 in cash payments for an ending cash balance of $1,557.

Also running for a second term is Mayor Glenn G. Parker. He received $4,707 in total contributions and made $2,955 in total expenditures. He had $3,924 in cash receipts and $2,230 in cash payments for an ending cash balance of $1,694.

Campaign disclosure statements for the other Brea City Council challengers indicate the following totals as of Oct. 22:

* Marty Simonoff: $9,893 in total contributions, $7,898 in total expenditures, cash receipts of $3,525, cash payments of $1,157, cash balance of $2,368.

* William M. Vega: $3,548 in total contributions, $3,774 in total expenditures, cash receipts of $2,304, cash payments of $1,630, cash balance of $674.

* Steven C. Vargas: $1,620 in total contributions, $3,354 in total expenditures, cash receipts of $453, cash payments of $417, cash balance of $36.

* Sandra Varner Nolte: $956 in total contributions, $956 in total expenditures, no cash receipts or cash payments.

Challenger William T. Watson filed a statement indicating that he does not expect to receive $1,000 or more in contributions or spend $1,000 or more on his campaign.

Three of the five City Council seats are being contested in the Nov. 8 municipal election. The only incumbent not seeking reelection is councilman and former mayor Carrey J. Nelson. He was appointed to the council in June, 1978, and first elected in November, 1982.
