TICKET-FREE: Southwest Airlines has something new for passengers who don’t have time to get tickets: a no-ticket system. Passengers can confirm their reservations by phone with a credit card and then can board their planes with just a confirmation number and picture I.D. . . . Southwest operates 48 flights daily in and out of Burbank Airport.

FIGHTING BACK: Speaking of tickets, wouldn’t it be great if parking tickets also disappeared? Not a chance. Parking tickets are a part of life, and very few people bother to contest them (B2). . . . But John Romano of Chatsworth is. Romano got a ticket while helping his disabled wife out of the car a few weeks ago, and says that under the current system, “you are guilty until proven innocent.”

MESSY BUSINESS: Mirk Mirkin, above, is a major mess. Or, at least, his office is. The Sherman Oaks marketing and meeting planner recently won an honorable mention from Home Office Computing magazine in a contest seeking the messiest home office in America. . . . Mirkin, 67, who keeps papers, boxes and files everywhere, tries to keep tidy “but it catches up on me when the mail comes.”

VALLEY GIRLS: It’s a movie about a bunch named Brady . . . but don’t look for Valley natives Eve Plumb and Maureen McCormick. Although many of the TV actors make cameo appearances in the Paramount production due out next year, the Brady Bunch’s original Jan and Marcia both turned down parts. . . . Much of the picture was shot at Valley locations (F1).

GOING PUBLIC: The ax is poised over CSUN athletics. The only question is: Where will it fall? On Tuesday, administrators said they’ll ask the public to help them make that decision (C8). . . . The cuts became likely after students voted last month against a $49 semester fee that would have generated $2.25 million for the athletic department.
