RYAN’S HOPE: The American Red Cross is holding a special donor drive for a young Anaheim boy. Five-year-old Ryan Pierson, who was born with a rare bone disease, needs a bone marrow match. The Red Cross is testing potential donors from 1 to 6 p.m. Sunday at the Cypress Evangelical Church. . . . His mother, Laura, has been through the search for a matching donor before. “But I’ll never give up,” she says. “I can’t give up.”

MARIO’S DREAM: Those who live in Tucson and follow the Triple-A Toros baseball team probably know Mario Impemba’s voice like he was part of the family. But Impemba, as one might expect, dreamed of making the bigs. After four years in Tucson, his time has come: Impemba, 31, will join Bob Starr next season on California Angels radio broadcasts. . . . Says Mike Feder, general manager of the Toros: “Mario has a promising future ahead of him in major-league baseball.”

FAMILY LOVE: When Entrepreneur magazine decided to come up with the country’s 40 most successful “young millionaires,” Sherri Medina--with her $20 million--was a safe bet to make the list. Medina, 34, owns South Coast Rehabilitation Services of Laguna Hills, which manages therapy programs for skilled nursing facilities. . . . For those interested in making $20 million, she gave the magazine her formula for success: “We give our patients the same care we would give our own families.”

NEW KING: If someone gave you a mountain lion, what would you name it? State officials recently donated a 12-week-old mountain lion found near Lake Tahoe to the county zoo at Irvine Regional Park. About 900 visitors participated in a naming contest. The winner may not be original, but it was by far the most popular response: Simba. . . . Simba is the title character in “The Lion King,” a Disney movie. Disney officials were so impressed that they’ve agreed to “adopt” Simba, meaning that they will help pay for his keep.
