GLENDALE : Health Care Forum to Target Armenians
A forum to educate Armenian immigrants on the health care options available to them in the United States will be held in Glendale today.
From 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at St. Mary’s Armenian Apostolic Church, volunteer physicians and other health care professionals will conduct information classes addressing specific health issues affecting the Armenian community.
“Historically, countries in which Armenians have lived lack public health education,” said Dr. Mihran Shirinian, a staff oncologist at Glendale Adventist Medical Center and an organizer of the health forum.
“Because of this, Armenians living in the U.S. may delay basic health care because they do not understand their health care options.”
The forum will feature classes by seven physicians, a dentist, a psychologist, a chiropractor, a registered dietician and a marriage, family and child counselor, all of Armenian descent. The entire program will be taught in Armenian.
The topics will include emotional health, children’s health, eating right, healthy living and prevention of cancer and heart disease.
Robert G. Carmen, president of Glendale Adventist, said the event will “focus on educating people about their health and encourage them to maintain a healthy way of life.”
St. Mary’s Armenian Apostolic Church is located at 500 S. Central Ave.
