A Los Angeles firefighter was in good condition Monday after receiving second-degree burns while battling a house fire that caused $100,000 in damage and left a family of five homeless, authorities said.

The firefighter, whose name was not released pending notification of relatives, was burned on the neck. He was taken to Northridge Hospital Medical Center, Fire Department spokesman Jim Wells said.

The fire broke out Sunday night about 8 p.m. at 20220 Arminta St., Wells said, and by the time firefighters arrived, they found the one-story family dwelling engulfed with flames. The family is believed to be staying with relatives. The cause of the blaze is unknown.
