Mary P. Borell Wins Library Board Post
After taking 16 votes, the Palos Verdes Library District board appointed a fifth trustee, community college Administrator Mary P. Borell.
Trustees voted 3 to 1 on Nov. 2 to appoint the Rancho Palos Verdes resident, whose term will expire in November, 1995. Borell replaces Chris Tara, who resigned after taking a job in Michigan.
Borell, 55, holds a doctorate in educational administration from Northwestern University and is the director of economic development for the Los Angeles Community College District.
Borell said she wants to increase funds, hours and collections at the peninsula’s three libraries through partnerships with businesses, schools and other libraries.
The district received 13 applications, an unusually large number, for the unpaid position, said Linda Elliott, library district director.
Elliott said the board used a voting system that eliminates candidates if they do not receive a set number of votes to narrow down the large field of candidates.
