SAN CLEMENTE : Woods’ Mother Files Wrongful-Death Suit

The mother of a San Clemente teen-ager who was killed when he was speared in the head with a paint roller following a beachside altercation Oct. 15, 1993, has filed a wrongful-death lawsuit against nine people she said were responsible.

Stephen L. Woods, 17, died Nov. 9, 1993, three weeks after two groups of high school friends clashed near San Clemente State Beach.

The suit, filed by Kathy Woods, charges nine people with responsibility for her son’s death, including Juan Enriquez Alcocer, 20, Hector Gutierrez Penuelas, 17, and Julio Perez Bonilla, 18, who have been convicted of second-degree murder and related charges for Woods’ death. The suit also names Arturo Molina Villalobos, 19, who pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter; Pascual Guerrero Bonilla; Balfred Cuenca Brito; Luis Fernando Mora; Saul Gutierrez Penuelas, and Rogelio Vasquez Solis.
