OC HIGH: STUDENT NEWS AND VIEWS : inline : Emotional Season
The holidays can be tough emotionally for teens as well as others. Beating the holiday blues is the subject of a daylong presentation Saturday at Barnes & Noble Bookstore in Santa Ana.
In a 2 p.m. session directed specifically at teen-agers, Dr. Lawrence Budner of Orange will offer advice on overcoming excessive self-absorption, which, in Scrooge-like fashion, can destroy the potential for meaningful holiday experiences.
Other topics will be presented hourly, beginning with “Exercise & Nutrition” at 9 a.m. and ending with “The Value of Humor” at 4 p.m. At MainPlace, 2800 M. Main St., Santa Ana. (714) 667-0313.
Getting Ahead
Rancho Alamitos High School’s dropout prevention program has gotten a boost with a $33,050 state grant designed to integrate technology and assist limited English-proficient pupils.
The Garden Grove school will use the funds to expand an existing dropout prevention program by creating a multimedia center in the library. Computerized learning stations will be established to help at-risk students of limited English ability and their families improve their language skills.
