PRO FOOTBALL / DAILY REPORT : RAMS : Miller Called OK After Latest Tests

After undergoing a series of tests late Wednesday night, quarterback Chris Miller was reassured by doctors that he has suffered no serious damage from his concussion three weeks ago against New Orleans.

Miller had suffered from post-concussion syndrome and complained of headaches, dizziness and problems focusing since hitting the back of his helmet the Superdome artificial turf after a tackle by the Saints’ Ernest Dixon.

Miller said MRI and CAT scan tests showed no damage, adding that doctors thought some of his problems could have been from whiplash.

“My neck muscles have been real tight but I haven’t paid much attention to it,” he said. “Apparently, they have been squeezing off my nerves or arteries to my brain.

“They think everything brain-wise is fine. There’s no damage on my brain cells or whatever the hell they’re looking for.”

Coach Chuck Knox said team officials spoke with the NFL office about a malfunction in Chandler’s helmet headset that prevented him from calling for a pass on second and goal from the Denver one.

The helmet headset allows coaches to relay plays from the sideline, but Chandler’s didn’t work. He misread a hand signal from the sideline and called the wrong play.

Knox has considered dumping the helmet headsets, as some NFL teams have done, and using hand signals.

Although Darryl Ashmore and Jackie Slater are available at tackle, rookie Wayne Gandy still start at right tackle. Knox expects Slater to be able to play Sunday after being out because of a torn triceps muscle. Slater played on special teams against Denver, but Knox wanted him to test the triceps injury in practice before playing tackle in a game situation.
