Film on Gay Teens

“Totally F***ed Up” has to be one of the finest films to be released into theaters this year (“Charting Trouble Life of Gay Teens,” Nov. 2). Although it is about gay teens, it really goes beyond its immediate subject matter to become a statement on society as a whole. Some might find this move by Greg Araki angry, but one could easily view it as a matter-of-fact statement on life for teen-agers in our society who happen to be gay.

Although it is somber, being about the unusually high rate of suicide among gay teens, it is a story that should be told. The rate of suicide is alarmingly high, and alienation is a real problem. The director-writer should be given much credit for not glossing over the subject matter with a happy Hollywood ending.
