SPECIAL TO THE TIMES

A former Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputy wanted in the fatal shooting of a grocery store manager here in July will be a subject of tonight’s episode of “America’s Most Wanted.”

Police suspect Stephen Moreland Redd in the shooting of Timothy Eugene McVeigh during a holdup of the Alpha Beta on Yorba Linda Boulevard. The former deputy is also wanted in connection with two other robberies.

Ivey Van Allen, publicist for the show, said, “One of the interesting parts about this case is that Redd is an ex-cop. We consider an ex-cop more dangerous because of their knowledge of firearms and how to get around the law.”

The 13-minute segment will include a re-enactment of the robbery and shooting, which was filmed on location at the store. The segment also will feature interviews with a cashier and a security guard who were there that night. Pictures of Redd, who police say is known to disguise his appearance, will be shown at the end of the show.

Detectives with the Brea Police Department, which patrols Yorba Linda, contacted the producers of the show about filming a segment on Redd, who was identified as a suspect two weeks after the shooting.

Orange police said the other two robberies for which Redd is sought occurred in the same shopping center. In both of those, the robber wore a long, dark wig.

Van Allen said viewers of the show have called in tips that have lead to the capture of 325 fugitives.

“I hope our viewers can help police out,” Van Allen said.
