RELIGION IN SCHOOL? The question, “Does Religion Have Any Place in the Public Schools?” will be addressed by panelists Thursday night in Northridge at another in a series of public forums sponsored by the San Fernando Valley Interfaith Council.

Speakers will include Rabbi Jerald Brown of Temple Ahavat Shalom, Northridge; Joanne Zgonc of West Hills, a Roman Catholic; Pastor Ken Puccio of Holy Shepherd Lutheran Church, Chatsworth, and Patty Meade, a faculty member at Church on the Way’s The King’s Institute in Van Nuys.

The series moderator, the Rev. Jeff Utter of the Congregation Church of Chatsworth, will begin the program at 7:30 p.m. at the Northridge Seventh-day Adventist Church, 17700 Plummer St. The event, which is free, includes questions and discussion by participants. SCHOOL DEDICATION: Formal dedication of a new campus on Mulholland Drive for the nation’s only Reform Jewish high school will be held at 10 a.m. Sunday, led by Rabbi Isaiah Zeldin of Stephen S. Wise Temple.

The Stephen Wise Community Middle/High School, which has been located at the temple for its first two years, is moving most classes to temporary quarters on Mulholland just west of the San Diego Freeway. Work on permanent buildings has begun.

HOMELESS BENEFIT: There will be a concert of piano music by Chopin on Sunday night to benefit a cold weather program for the homeless in Glendale.

Pianist Judith Sandoval-Ferg will perform in the 7 p.m. event at 1211 N. Brand Blvd. Admission is free but an offering will be taken to support the Cold Weather Shelter Program sponsored by seven Glendale area churches and the Glendale Rotary Club. The National Guard Armory in Glendale will be used as a shelter mid-December through March.

JEWISH SONGS: A festival of Jewish songs will be held at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at Valley Beth Shalom in Encino with performances by more than a dozen individuals and groups including Cantor Uri Frenkel, the Kol Echad Chorale, Sam and Judy Glass, Rabbi Joe Black and Kenny Ellis.

ADVENTIST SINGLES: A three-day seminar on sex and the single life, led by author Nancy Van Pelt, will begin at 7 p.m. Friday at the Northridge Seventh-day Adventist Church, 17700 Plummer St. A $40 registration fee for materials is payable at the door.
