Boston College Rolls a Seven, Shuts Out Syracuse
No. 25-ranked Boston College ran its unbeaten streak to seven games by defeating No. 14 Syracuse, 31-0, on Saturday behind Mark Hartsell, who passed for three touchdowns, and a relentless pass rush.
The Eagles had six sacks, five against Kevin Mason, who was second in the nation in passing efficiency. Mason had been sacked only 11 times in the previous eight games.
“If you’ve ever played anything competitively when the other team can’t score, it’s a wonderful experience,” said Boston College Coach Dan Henning.
The Eagles, 6-2-1 overall and 3-1-1 in the Big East, moved from fourth place to second in the conference. Syracuse (6-3, 4-2) dropped out of second after its second consecutive game without a touchdown.
“I’ve never felt like this before in my life,” Orangemen offensive tackle Jim Ledger said. “This is the biggest disappointment I’ve ever gone through.”
A tie with Rutgers is the only blemish on Boston College’s record since opening with losses to Michigan and Virginia Tech.
