Kmart Will Open Two Superstores: Kmart Corp., the nation’s second-largest retailer, will introduce its superstore concept this week to a Southern California retail market that is increasingly embracing the concept of one-stop shopping. The first of the Super Kmart stores in the region will open Sunday in Anaheim and La Habra. The stores incorporate a regular Kmart with a full-service grocery featuring fresh and gourmet foods. They also include pharmacies, floral departments, video rentals and restaurant areas. About 600 full- and part-time employees will work at each of the stores, which will be open 24 hours a day. Kmart has about 70 superstores nationwide. The first in California opened in September in Fresno. The company, which has said it expects to report its seventh straight quarterly earnings decline for the third quarter, has been on a massive self-improvement program this year to shore up its retailing operation, including overhauling store concepts and remodeling.
