OXNARD : Ball Field to Honor Slain Police Officer

Share

The Oxnard City Council today is expected to name a city softball field in honor of Police Officer James O’Brien, who was shot and killed last year while trying to stop the murderous rampage of Alan Winterbourne.

The newly renovated softball field at Beck Park at C and Kamala streets in south Oxnard, would be dedicated Nov. 22 in memory of the 10-year veteran, who was active in local boxing and karate programs for children.

“With all the things that Jim did with kids, it will be nice to know that his name will live on in a facility they use,” Assistant Police Chief Tom Cady said.

Winterbourne killed four people and injured three others during a shooting spree last December before being gunned down by Oxnard police outside a Ventura unemployment office.
