Times Gains in Orange County, Valley; Total Circulation Down
The Los Angeles Times continues to post circulation gains in its key competitive markets--Orange County and the San Fernando Valley--though total circulation has declined slightly, according to figures released Wednesday.
Total daily circulation for The Times--the nation’s second-largest metropolitan daily--declined by 27,488 copies, or 2.5%, to 1,062,202 for the six months ended Sept. 30, according to figures filed with the Audit Bureau of Circulations. Sunday circulation was down 30,559 copies, or 2.1%, to 1,457,925.
Daily circulation in Orange County reached 198,969, up 742 copies, or 0.4%, from the same period a year earlier. Sunday circulation there rose by 6,901 copies, or 2.4%, to 294,903.
In the San Fernando Valley and Ventura County, daily circulation rose 1,053 copies, or 0.5%, to 230,305. Sunday circulation fell 2,013 copies, or 0.6%, to 335,426.
The decreases in overall circulation are the result of lingering effects of the recession on street sales, January’s Northridge earthquake and planned circulation cutbacks outside the newspaper’s primary markets, the newspaper said.
