Agoura High’s Chris Driscoll knew how to ease the mind of a concerned coach--he guaranteed a victory.

And Driscoll delivered Wednesday when he scored four goals, including two in overtime, that gave the Chargers a 14-12 victory over San Luis Obispo in a Southern Section Division IV quarterfinal water polo match.

Agoura Coach Jason Rosenthal was upset Tuesday over San Luis Obispo’s protest that the depth of Agoura’s pool is only six feet--six inches short of regulation for a playoff game. It forced the Chargers to overfill the pool so the game would not be moved.

“(Rosenthal) was upset about the pool thing and that was reflecting on us,” Driscoll said, “so I just said, ‘Don’t worry, I’ll guarantee a victory.’ ”

It didn’t come easily for the Chargers (20-4), who trailed by three goals with five minutes left.

After Agoura pulled to within 11-10, the Tigers’ best player, Chris Lund, was ejected for throwing a punch with 1:29 left.

Agoura’s David Arons scored with 1:01 to play, tying the game.

Jeff Powers scored to give San Luis Obispo a 12-11 lead with 19 seconds to play, but Joey Vona scored on a pass from Driscoll with 10 seconds left, sending the game to a three-minute overtime.

The Chargers will face top-ranked San Marcos on Saturday.

Driscoll who has 200 goals, broke the school record of 196.

Royal 18, Cabrillo 10--Bill Bruininga scored four goals to lead the Highlanders in a Division IV quarterfinal match at Rancho Simi Community Pool. Royal will face second-seeded Santa Barbara in the semifinals.

Kris Kunkel, Matt Landre and Randy Owens each scored three goals for the Highlanders (16-11) and Randy Zielinski had 14 saves.
