GRADUATION BLUES: Here’s one batch of Fullerton College graduates with good job prospects: its Police Academy graduates 60 students today. . . . Ten already have jobs waiting for them, including five of the six women graduates. Academy spokesman Frank E. Whitman says the rest should be hired soon: “Recruitments have been heavy. Some cities have been providing larger budgets to increase their forces.”

THE REAL CARL: One downside to Carl N. Karcher’s struggles last year with his own board of directors: He lost his job as TV pitchman for his restaurant chain. But now that Karcher is chairman emeritus and things are calmer, he’s got his sales job back. . . . And this time it’s not a cartoon Karcher, but the 77-year-old fast-food mogul himself. Right now he can be seen on TV pitching the chain’s guacamole bacon cheeseburger. But more commercials are scheduled.

POLITICAL FACE? Thom Doney finished among the also-rans in this month’s Huntington Beach City Council race. Maybe he should have used his picture in his campaign. . . . Doney, a vice principal at the Liberty Christian School, is a dead ringer for Jay Leno. He’s one of the best look-alikes in December’s Ladies Home Journal, and he’s just come off a Maury Povich TV appearance. . . . The bad part, he says, is people expect him to be funny: “I’m not a stand-up comic. I just happen to look like him.”

PLAYING WITH FIRE: Remember when Sam Malone on TV’s “Cheers” got into trouble playing against a team of Playboy Playmates? But Emmy Day of the county Fire Department says bring them on. Local firefighters today will play a team of playmates and minor TV stars. “There’s even a woman from ‘Babewatch’; I mean ‘Baywatch,’ ” jokes Day. . . . The men-women’s game will be at 1 p.m. at Chapparosa Park in Laguna Niguel. Money raised will buy bikes for local foster children.
