PRO FOOTBALL / DAILY REPORT : RAMS : Henley Might Be Ready by Sunday

Darryl Henley’s injured hip isn’t as bad as doctors originally thought, and the cornerback wouldn’t rule out returning to full practice later this week and playing in Sunday’s game at San Diego.

“I’m preparing as though I’m playing this week,” said Henley, who ran and participated in a few drills. “My target date to see if I can move around is Friday or Saturday.”

Three days ago, doctors told Henley he could be out for four weeks because of a torn hip muscle. Henley is listed as out for the game on the team’s injury report, but Coach Chuck Knox said there is a chance Henley could play.

“He has made a tremendous recovery,” said Knox, who added that Robert Bailey would start in Henley’s place if Henley isn’t ready.

Henley injured his hip late in the second quarter of Sunday’s game against San Francisco, and doctors originally thought he broke a bone in his hip and tore a muscle. But Henley said that he only pulled some tendons in his hip and tore scar tissue from an old hip injury.

Rookie James Bostic, a backup tailback, underwent surgery Tuesday on his broken wrist. The Rams put Bostic, a third-round pick who has been inactive all season, on the injured-reserve list last week.
