ANAHEIM : Youth Shoots Truck Driver at Market, Then Flees

Share

A truck driver unloading food behind a supermarket was shot and wounded Friday by a youth who escaped, authorities said.

The victim, whose name was withheld by police, suffered a gunshot wound to his side when a youth walked up to him behind the Stater Bros. Market at Lincoln and Knott avenues and inexplicably fired one shot about 11:30 a.m., according to Jim Osbourne, a security guard hired by the store.

Police would not reveal the name of the hospital where the victim was taken, but said his injuries were minor.

The gunman, last seen fleeing east on Lincoln Avenue, remained at large.

“Stuff like this has never happened here before,” Osbourne said.

After the shooting, an employee at Pacific Bell, which is next door, said many workers were scared to walk out to the parking lot, which is separated from the crime scene by a five-foot brick wall.
