County Property Tax Deadline Extended

The deadline for filing the first installment of Ventura County property taxes has been extended to Dec. 12 because the original deadline falls on a Saturday, county officials said.

County Tax Collector Harold Pittman said the new deadline means that the first installment of property taxes must be postmarked Dec. 12 or submitted in person by 6 p.m. that day to avoid penalties.

The tax collector recommends paying by check through the mail, so taxpayers can avoid waiting in line at county offices. Taxpayers can use either Visa or Discover credit cards to pay the county, but the county is required to collect for fees charged by credit card companies. Visa charges a $45 fee for every $1,000 charged, and Discover charges a fee of $1 to $5 depending on the size of the bill, Pittman said.

The address for sending payments by mail is Tax Collector, 800 S. Victoria Ave., Ventura, Calif. 93009.
