It’s R.E.M. month for Tori Amos. She’s teaming with Michael Stipe to record a new song for the soundtrack to “Don Juan DeMarco” (starring Johnny Depp, Marlon Brando and Faye Dunaway), and is also recording her own version of R.E.M.’s “Losing My Religion” for director John Singleton’s “Higher Learning.” . . .

Soundgarden’s Chris Cornell and Latin pop star Selena have also recorded songs for “Don Juan.” The album is due Feb. 14. . . .

The U.S. version of former Pogues singer Shane MacGowan’s solo debut album, “The Snake,” will feature a duet with Sinead O’Connor on a song titled “Haunted.” The album is credited to Shane MacGowan & the Popes and will be in stores here on Feb. 14. The duet is not on the just-released British version. . . .

Sparks’ first British concert in 17 years on Nov. 17 had an all-star audience, including Morrissey, Depeche Mode’s Martin Gore and Erasure’s Vince Clarke, while former Suede guitarist Bernard Butler joined the group onstage for three songs. Sparks, now just brothers Ron and Russell Mael and a percussionist, will release its first album in six years in the spring. . . .

In other comeback news, Boston will hit the road in May for its first tour since 1986. . . . The debut album by Wilco, featuring former members of Uncle Tupelo, is due in March. . . . The Dec. 17 concert by blues veteran Johnny (Guitar) Watson at B.B. King’s Blues Club in Universal City will be broadcast live nationally on ABC radio’s “Touch Network.” The L.A. outlet is to be determined.*
