SOCIAL CLIMES : Rodeo Drive Shifts Gears for Event

All that remains of that once-stunning turkey is a dried-out carcass, and you’ve exhausted all the sales at every major mall within a 10-mile radius. So the seasonal fun is over? Hardly!

Next weekend you could be slumming it at the “Happy Harley Days” festival in Beverly Hills. There are things coming to Rodeo Drive that haven’t been seen in these parts before. The famed street will be shut down Dec. 4 so that some 20,000 hog-loving people can take part in this daylong event to raise money for Camp Ronald McDonald for Good Times.

Some of the attractions are decidedly downscale--McDonald’s will have a stand, marking the first time the ubiquitous Golden Arches has set up shop in Beverly Hills. A tattoo booth will offer temporary body-enhancing designs (for the permanent kind, head a little farther east). And hundreds of motorcyclists plan to show up, engines ripping.

If you haven’t bought all your Christmas gifts, a (not-so) silent auction offers items such as customized Harley jackets by Gianfranco Ferre, Todd Oldham, Guess, Cartier and Tiffany.

And for the young ones who aren’t quite ready to burn rubber? Get them a Harley-Davidson tricycle, of course.

Tea Time: And we thought we knew everything: Evidently, sipping a half-decaf, nonfat latte or any other number of overly complicated coffee drinks at some funky cafe is not the hippest way to pass the time in L.A. anymore.

It took a press release to let us know that a Yogi Tea cappuccino is now the drink of choice among those who spurn the bean. The tea is ground as fine as espresso and put through a machine just like the hard stuff. Mix with a little steamed milk (or soy milk, if you have that dairy aversion thing) et voila , a Yogi Tea cappuccino. We can just hear millions of French and Italian people laughing now.

And what’s going to be among the next wave of hip beverages? It’s just in the rumor stage, mind you, but get ready for . . . the Sankaccino.

Cat Treats: So you’re proud of yourself because you’ve finished all your holiday shopping? What about Fluffy? Have you gotten your cat anything? Or have you spurned her once again this year, thinking, “She’s just a cat. What does she know from the holidays? Anyway, she’ll be happy with a used ribbon.”

Shame on you. Cats know it’s the holidays. They can smell turkey.

That’s why we recommend indulging Fluffy in the Cat-Treats-of-the-Month from the Catnip Trading Co. It’s in the fine tradition of the Fruit-of-the-Month, Dessert-of-the-Month and, of course, Potato-of-the Month clubs, and this way ol’ Fluff will get a new treat all year ‘round. And maybe she won’t shred the couch quite as much as she has been.
