Squirreling Around--Preschoolers are invited to learn more about the winter ways of squirrels Wednesday at Oak Canyon Nature Center.

During the hourlong session, children will explore nature through activities including crawling through a burrow and scampering over and under logs. The session may also include a guided nature walk with a naturalist.

The fee for the program is $3 per child. Children must be 2 years or older. Preregistration is highly recommended. Information: (714) 998-8380.

Oak Canyon Nature Center is at 6700 Walnut Canyon Road, Anaheim. To get there, take the Riverside Freeway east to the Imperial Highway turnoff. Exit and head south to Nohl Ranch Road. Turn left and travel about three miles to Walnut Canyon Road, and turn left again. Pass the Anaheim Hills Golf Course; the nature center is at the end of the road, and parking is on the left.

Early Birds--Join an 8 a.m. hike Saturday at Oak Canyon Nature Center to identify local and migratory species. Beginning birders are welcome.

Cooped Up?--Avoid a case of mall-induced cabin fever with a bird’s-eye view of the great outdoors.

The Oak Canyon Nature Center will have a birding tour for families at 10 a.m. Saturday.
