Police arrested four suspected gang members on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon, auto theft and possession of narcotics after a high-speed car chase, authorities said.

The pursuit was one of two police chases in the city Saturday. It began about 4 p.m. near Orangewood Avenue and Haster Street when an Anaheim police officer spotted a vehicle that had been carjacked in Livermore on Thursday, Sgt. Thomas Lahmon said.

Officers pursued the car and stopped the driver at Chapman Avenue and Haster Street after the car had careened into a police cruiser, Lahmon said.

The four juveniles ran and were quickly rounded up. Police fired one shot during the foot chase, but no one was injured, according to police.

“One round was fired but nobody was hit and nobody was hurt,” Lahmon said.

The suspects, who were all on probation for other criminal offenses, are being held in Orange County Juvenile Hall, police said.

Meanwhile, at the east end of the city, another pursuit began at about 4:30 p.m. near Pageant Street and Bainbridge Avenue when Anaheim police officers spotted another car that had been reported stolen, Lahmon said.

“The guys chased it all over the east end of Anaheim, along the pedestrian trail of a river bed until the driver lost control and stopped,” Lahmon said.

The fleeing car apparently was struck by a police cruiser and knocked off the trail onto the bank of the river, Lahmon said.

Two people were being held, he said. No names or additional details were available late Saturday.
