Garden Grove City Council Approves Pact for 85 New Bus-Stop Shelters
The contract for another 85 bus-stop shelters has been approved by the City Council.
Bustop Shelters of California will immediately install 50 of the shelters and the rest will be phased in over five years.
Of the 373 bus stops around the city, 75 have shelters, according to J. David Kennon, the city’s development services director. Bustop Shelters holds the license to 50 of those shelters, he said.
Beside providing a service to the community, the bus-stop shelters give the city additional income through license fees, which will amount to nearly $10,000 a month, Kennon said.
Bus shelter operators make money by leasing space to advertisers. Bustop Shelters, which is based in Irvine, has ties with Van Wager Communication, an agent for several national advertising companies.
