MOORPARK : Workers OK Contract With Muranaka Farms
Field laborers and packinghouse workers at Muranaka Farms in Moorpark unanimously approved a new United Farm Workers contract negotiated with the company, officials said Saturday.
The agreement, approved at a UFW meeting Friday night, will set up an unprecedented labor contract in which farm workers will share in some management decisions, said Mario Brito, the regional director of the union.
“The workers had really pushed for this contract,” Brito said. “This is a way to show that workers are really interested in keeping the company profitable.”
The approximately 150 workers at the company, who earn from $12,000 to $14,000 a year, will also receive 5% to 8% pay raises, union officials said.
