Retired Pastor Michael J. Carlos Dies
Father Michael J. Carlos, the retired pastor of Our Lady of Fatima Church, died last week, it was announced Monday. He was 84.
The Irish-born Father Carlos was ordained to the Roman Catholic priesthood for the Diocese of Elphin in Ireland on May 31, 1936, leaving his home and family several years later to settle in Southern California.
He served the Archdiocese of Los Angeles as chaplain of St. Catherine’s Military School in Anaheim and Santa Teresita Hospital in Duarte, according to church officials.
In 1945, Father Carlos was appointed assistant pastor at St. Mary’s in Fullerton. He was again promoted in 1951 as administrator of Our Lady of Fatima Church in San Clemente, where he retired in 1970 as pastor.
The cause of his death last Friday was not released by church officials. A vigil is set at 7:30 tonight at Our Lady of Fatima Church, 105 N. La Esperanza Ave. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the same place.
Father Carlos is survived by three sisters, Mary Carlos, Gretta Carlos and Tessie Kelly, all of Ireland.
