LAGUNA HILLS : Crossing Guard Added Near Valencia School

Share

The City Council has approved spending $8,500 each year for an additional crossing guard near Valencia Elementary School.

The guard will help cross children at La Paz Road and Paseo de Valencia.

“Numerous kids use that intersection and we have a concern that one crossing guard is not able to handle the volume of traffic there,” Valencia Principal Don Snyder told the council at its meeting last week.

Many children crossing there are dropped off along the two streets by parents who don’t want to navigate through the busy school drop-off zone on Paseo de Valencia.

All four crosswalks are equipped with walk signals, but the council decided that it would be safer to have another adult present to alert drivers that kids were crossing.

The new guard brings to four the total number of school crossing guards funded by the city.

The other two help cross students at Lomarena Elementary. One is posted at Alicia Parkway and Wilkes Place and the other is at Barents Street and Earhart Road.
