NORTH HOLLYWOOD : Grenade Found in Vacant Apartment

Share

Nervous workers who found a hand grenade Thursday at a North Hollywood apartment house they were repairing took the device to a nearby swimming pool and threw it in to stifle any explosion that might occur, Los Angeles police said.

The LAPD’s bomb squad was called to the 5700 block of Fair Avenue, where they found the grenade at the bottom of a pool a few doors from where workers said they discovered it in a vacant apartment, Sgt. Christopher Vasquez said.

The apartment building with the pool was evacuated while bomb specialists detonated the grenade, Vasquez said. No one was injured.

“It is a mystery if the grenade was actually live,” Vasquez said. “But the workers thought the water would help.”
