OUTLOOK

Sunset League coaches were glad to see the Oilers’ 6-6, 230-pound, Tony Gonzalez, a two-time all-county selection, take his dunk show to California. This season, the Oilers return only two players from last season’s second-place team. Jones, a returning starter, was more of a supplementary player but this season Miller will need more production from him. Chilcott, who also has a soft shooting touch, is the other cornerstone for the Oilers. Although there are only 10 players on the roster--eight newcomers--Miller is still optimistic. “We’re undermanned, but it’s a realistic goal for us to make the playoffs,” Miller said. “With a lot of luck, we could win a league championship. Some teams I’ve had are maxed-out as far as potential, but this team has a lot of room for improvement.” Higginbotham has shown good quickness and an ability to create off the dribble. Johnson could be the team’s best post-scorer, although he is only 6-1. Montgomery and Fullbright should also make significant contributions.
