NCAA VOLLEYBALL : Big Weekend for Bruins, Trojans, 49ers

The UCLA, USC and Long Beach State women’s volleyball teams begin play this weekend in the NCAA tournament, each grouped in a different regional.

Each had a first-round bye. UCLA will play host to Georgia Tech in Pauley Pavilion and USC will play host to New Mexico in the Lyon Center. Both matches begin at 7 tonight. Long Beach will play host to Montana Sunday at 3 p.m. in The Pyramid.

Third-ranked UCLA was top-seeded in the South Region, where No. 14 Florida has been selected as the projected host for the regional tournament next weekend. If all goes according to form, No. 10 USC will travel to second-ranked Stanford for the West Regional, and seventh-ranked Long Beach will play host to the Northwest Regional.

UCLA (28-3) is led against Georgia Tech (26-8) by Annett Buckner, the Pacific 10 Conference player of the year. USC comes into the tournament with a 20-7 record against New Mexico (20-9). Long Beach State takes a 25-5 mark against Montana (25-5).
