VENTURA : Metrolink On-Time Performance Slips

Share

After a marked improvement in on-time performance, Metrolink train service slipped slightly in October, with 22% of the trains from Los Angeles to Ventura County arriving late.

Metrolink service to Ventura County has been plagued by delays, due in large part to aging tracks and a dispatching system that favors freight trains over commuter service, a Metrolink spokesman said.

The Transportation Commission Friday agreed to continue pressing for better on-time performance from the train service.

Late trains do not appear to be affecting ridership, which remained steady at about 1,500 passengers a day each way during October.

Meanwhile, the commission is conducting a survey to determine where riders live.

Of 500 survey postcards placed on windshields in Metrolink parking lots in Simi Valley, Moorpark, Camarillo and Oxnard, 173 have been returned.

Of those, 38% are from Simi Valley, 15% apiece from Moorpark and Thousand Oaks, 13% from Camarillo, 10% from Oxnard, 5% from Ventura, 1% from Fillmore and 1% from Ojai.
