SANTA ANA — The Bowers Museum of Cultural Art will hold the annual Las Posadas traditional Mexican Christmas festival at the museum on Dec. 18.
The museum’s three-hour free event will feature folkloric dancers, live music and pinatas as well as traditional Las Posadas foods, including sweet tamales and sugar candies.
In Mexico, Las Posadas began in 1587, when an Augustan friar, Diego de Soria, was given permission by Pope Sixtus V to celebrate special masses outdoors in the days before Christmas. It evolved into the public processions that are commonplace today.
Bowers’ Las Posadas celebration will run from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the museum, 2002 N. Main St., Santa Ana. Information: (714) 567-3600.
