TCI in Argentine, Japanese Cable Ventures: Tele-Communications Inc., the largest U.S. operator of cable TV systems, said it plans to acquire 80% of Buenos Aires-based Cablevision de Argentina. Terms of the deal, which is subject to the approval of Argentine regulators, were not disclosed. Cablevision, with 450,000 customers, is one of the largest cable operators in Argentina. TCI also announced the formation of Jupiter Telecommunications, a joint venture with Sumitomo Corp. of Japan. Jupiter will manage cable systems and aims to offer telephone service eventually. In Japan, six Sumitomo cable systems serving 775,000 households in the Tokyo area will be transferred to Jupiter. Sumitomo will have a 60% interest; TCI will have the other 40%.
