A gang member convicted of spitting on truck driver Reginald O. Denny and attacking another man during the 1992 riots was sentenced Tuesday to three years in prison for attacking police officers seven months ago.

Anthony Lamar Brown pleaded guilty to charges of attempted lynching for the May 7 attack on police officers in the 1500 block of 70th Street in South Los Angeles.

Brown, 26, was sentenced after pleading guilty to one count of assault and one count of misdemeanor battery. He will receive credit for 399 days already served.

During the riots, Brown was convicted of attacking a Latino who had gotten off a bus in front of Tom’s Liquor store, then spitting on Denny as he was beaten in front of the truck he was driving. Brown received a two-year prison term in that case.

In this year’s attack, Brown and a “bunch of gang members” were at his home when two police officers attempted to impound friend Steven Poindexter’s car, said Deputy Dist. Atty. Larry Morrison.

Poindexter, sentenced Tuesday to five years in prison in the incident, led an attack on the officers, Morrison said. The group pulled the officers into the house where they were attacked.
