CARSON : City to Return to Weekly Street Sweeping
- Share via
Abandoning its pilot program, the City Council voted Tuesday to return to weekly street sweeping in residential and commercial areas.
The streets had been swept only twice a month since Sept. 6 in an effort to save money. But the city did not change street signs when it cut back sweeping.
The old signs confused some residents--and some parking enforcement officers. Eight residents reported receiving parking tickets on weeks when no street sweeping occurred. City officials agreed to tear up those tickets.
On Tuesday, the council voted 3 to 0 to return to the old system, spending about $88,000 for the additional service. Councilwoman Kay A. Calas was absent, and Lorelie S. Olaes abstained.
The weekly sweeping will start Jan. 1.
