Walt Disney Acquires Video Rental Firm: Walt Disney Co., seeking to boost its fast-growing home video business, has acquired SuperComm Inc. Terms of the purchase weren’t disclosed. Privately held SuperComm, based in Dallas, Tex., rents videos to supermarkets for between $10 and $12 a cassette and then shares in video rental revenue. SuperComm supplies 24 supermarket retailers at 1,211 store locations nationwide. Media market researcher Paul Kagan Associates estimates that annual video cassette sales at grocery and drug stores are about $1.7 billion, or 18.3% of total U.S. video rental revenue.
