MOORPARK : Rate Hike Approved for Trash Collection

Share

Starting next year, Moorpark residents will pay slightly more to have their trash taken away.

The Moorpark City Council voted unanimously Wednesday to allow the city’s two trash haulers to raise residential rates by 18 cents. With the new increase, the haulers, G.I. Rubbish and Anderson Rubbish, will charge $17.40 per month for their service, which includes recycling.

Seniors who now have reduced rates will also see an increase. Their rates will go up 14 cents to $14.10 a month.

“We’ve tried to shield residents from increases over the last two years,”said Councilman John Wozniak, who serves on the council’s Solid Waste Committee. “This increase, though, is one that we felt was necessary to keep up with fuel costs and maintenance costs.”

G.I. Rubbish hauls trash for about 60% of Moorpark’s 7,000 customers, and Anderson Rubbish picks up the remainder. Both companies had also asked for increases of 28 cents to 49 cents for collecting recycled materials, but were denied that request.
