Who doesn’t like to be waited on?

Occasional tables with personality can hold snacks or reading material in small spaces and may be just the right piece to complete a playful setting or to lighten up a serious room.

For those with sport in mind, Reginald is a caddie of wood, hand-painted and waiting to serve you.

The piece is part of the Furniture for Golfers collection (which includes golf club bookends, a golf ball display cabinet and a sofa table) offered by Global Sport Specialties, a division of Global Sports Management in Winston-Salem, N.C., which puts on golf tournaments throughout the world.

For an even more loony touch, there is the Warner Bros. Gallery Collection. Or, in the words of Tweety, yes, you saw a puddy tat.

The Sylvester end table ($275), a silhouette crafted of buffed black iron, is a blend of serious artistry and whimsy. It’s branded with the authentic “TW” stamp of the studio’s renowned artist Tex Welch.

Also available as end tables are Bugs Bunny, Porky Pig and the Tasmanian Devil.

All can be purchased through the Warner Bros. catalogue (800) 223-6524 or at the Warner Bros. Studio stores at the Brea Mall and South Coast Plaza, Costa Mesa.

Temperate Climates

The Day & Night thermostat is designed to make controlling your home’s temperature a simple matter. Not only are the thermostats friendly to use, they’re mercury-free and made with recycled materials.

During the design process for the six models that came on the market last month, Day & Night interviewed homeowners around the country to see what they wanted in an ideal thermostat. Those suggestions were integrated into the final product, said Kim Warren, product manager at Day & Night, a division of Indianapolis-based Carrier Corp.

Among the suggestions were large push buttons made of soft rubber, like those on a television remote control; a back-lit liquid crystal display for better viewing; a clean filter indicator to alert consumers when to clean or replace an air filter and an energy savings indicator. The thermostat is controlled electronically and doesn’t require battery backup to retain memory.

The thermostat works with any heating and cooling system; it is designed so a do-it-yourselfer can install it.

The thermostats ($95 to $225 with installation) can be purchased from Day & Night contractors or by calling (800) 468-7253.
