SANTA ANA : Trim a Tree for Peace in the Park

Share

Community groups and the city today invites a neighborhood once riddled with crime to decorate a donated Christmas tree in Flower Park.

The county-funded Project SABADO and Carver Concerned Parents--formed earlier this year to walk children to school safely--is hosting the event, said Judy Buffin-Edge, a SABADO board member.

The Fire Department will deliver the tree, donated by Home Depot, to the park on an engine at 10 a.m. Children will decorate it with donated garland and ornaments made Carver Elementary School students, she said.

The tree will be planted to symbolize new hope in the neighborhood, which has been relatively calm since an undercover police operation made many gang-related arrests.

“It will be just a symbol of peace in that park,” Buffin-Edge said.

Project SABADO is seeking donations of ornaments, she said.
