A 39-year-old woman was released from jail in Van Nuys on Friday afternoon after authorities warned her not to go near former teen idol Bobby Sherman.

Ethel Richards, 39, had called Sherman, his office and his mother. She was arrested outside his Encino home.

If Richards doesn’t leave Sherman alone, LAPD Detective Jeff Dunn said, “we’re going to re-evaluate our decision not to press charges.”

“I certainly have no ill feelings towards her,” said Sherman in an interview Friday. “I had no recourse, I really didn’t. . . . I don’t do that to fans. Most of my fans, if they find my address, they’ll ask for an autograph.”

Sherman said Richards had called every Sherman listed in the telephone book until she found his mother, and also called his offices and manager posing as a record-company executive.

Sherman said police had advised him to notify them if she showed up at his home. Police arrested Richards about 5:15 p.m. Wednesday.

Dunn said the decision not to charge Richards was made in a conference Friday attended by Sherman, detectives and the city attorney.

Richards spent Wednesday and Thursday nights in the Van Nuys jail. Sherman said she had written him a number of letters last month stating that when she was a teen-age runaway. Sherman lent her money to call home.
