Dolphin Kills Swimmer Who Tried to Catch Ride
A dolphin attacked two swimmers who tried to ride it and tie objects to its tail, killing one and injuring the other, a newspaper said Friday.
Joao Paulo Moreira and Wilson Reis Pedroso were repeatedly head-butted by the dolphin while swimming Thursday at a beach in Caraguatatuba, 200 miles southwest of Rio, the O Globo newspaper said.
The dolphin, a popular tourist attraction at the beach, was nicknamed “Tiao,” short for Sebastiao. “We warned people . . . not to approach the dolphin, but to let him make the first move,” biologist Andre Rossi was quoted as saying.
