Alyce (Lisa) Williamson; Artist Accomplished in Many Media

Share

Alyce Marie (Lisa) Williamson, the great-great-granddaughter of Times founder Harrison Gray Otis, has died at the age of 34.

Miss Williamson died Sunday at her home in Pasadena, said her mother, Alyce Williamson, after “a courageous 21-month battle” against breast cancer.

An artist in many media, Miss Williamson was identified early as a gifted child who began painting at the age of 3. As she grew up, she mastered fine line drawings, lithographs, ceramics and pottery as well as oil painting.

A private person, Miss Williamson resisted suggestions by her family and admirers that she stage any retrospective exhibitions of her work. Most of her art, with a special emphasis on animals and botanically precise renderings of plants, is in private collections.

Miss Williamson, an ardent environmentalist, also grew prize-winning orchids at the family’s St. Malo Beach home in San Diego County.

Born in Los Angeles, Miss Williamson was educated at Polytechnic School in Pasadena and at UC Santa Barbara, where she studied art.

She made her bow with her father, Warren Williamson, at Las Madrinas, the Pasadena Guild of Children’s Hospital and the Valley Hunt Club debutante balls.

Miss Williamson is survived by her parents, Warren and Alyce Williamson; two sisters, Sandra Fallat, of San Anselmo, and Dr. Ruth Chandler Williamson, of Pasadena; one brother, Henry de Roulet Williamson, of South Pasadena, and two nieces and two nephews.

Private services for the family and close friends will be conducted today. The family has asked that any memorial donations be made to the USC-Norris Cancer Center, 1420 San Pablo, C-100, Los Angeles, Calif. 90033.
