LONG BEACH : Job Center Planned for Former Naval Site

Share

An $18.6-million job-training center is planned for a former naval housing site in west Long Beach, federal officials announced this month.

The center will be built on 17 acres at the former Savannah-Cabrillo housing project, and will be operated by the U.S. Department of Labor. It will house up to 264 students in dorms on the site.

When completed at the end of 1996, the center will offer job training mainly to low-income Long Beach residents between 16 and 24 years old. Trades such as auto repair, landscaping, telecommunications and tile installation will be taught at the center.
