Countywide : ORANGE : Gifts Are Needed for Inmates’ Children

At least 350 children whose parents are in prison will celebrate Christmas a little early this year.

Friends Outside will have its 10th annual holiday party for the children from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. Saturday at the Orange Senior Center. But organizers lack about 100 gift-filled stockings, said program director Sandi Burns.

All of the children are from Orange County but their parents are in prisons across the state.

“Many times, especially through the holidays, the separation is very sad,” Burns said. “The kids love the party. They look forward to it every year. . . . For most of them, their lives are filled with a lot of despair.”

The group likes to give each child a stocking filled with small gifts such as crayons, candy or books, Burns said.

Anyone wishing to donate a stocking should call the group at (714) 836-8100.
