MCA Records Wins $4 Million in Chess Catalog Case: The record company said a U.S. District Court jury unanimously awarded the full amount in damages requested by MCA for unauthorized use of the famed Chess Catalog and Chess trademarks. The damages, which apply only to activity in the United States, are to be paid by Britain-based Charly Holdings Inc. and Charly Records International. Similar suits by MCA are pending against Charly in France, England and other countries. The Chess Catalog consists of some 25,000 titles on masters originally recorded for or released by the Chess, Checker, Argo, Cadet, Cadet Concept and Aristocrat record labels.
