Share

As part of a federal effort to help economically disadvantaged people prepare themselves for the job market, Pierce College in Woodland Hills is offering free job-training courses for residents of both the city and county of Los Angeles.

Applications are now being accepted for enrollment next semester.

Courses offered include office administration, animal care-taking, certified nursing assisting/home health care, and automotive technology.

Workshops in interview and resume skills are also offered.

The city’s portion of the program is for those ages 16 through 21, while the county’s portion is open to both youths and adults, said Kathy Oborn, project director for the city.

Oborn said that after training people for jobs, the program helps them find work and checks up on them afterward.

“We can’t just get them a job,” Oborn said “We have to do follow-ups.”
